Pretty frequent question that parents ask the English teacher.

We know that many parents want to help their children but often don’t know how. Here are some questions that often concern parents.

I hope that these tips will be useful to you and your children and will help them in mastering the English language.

Question: What to do if the child does not want to study English?

Answer: Talk to your child and find out the reason for his reluctance: he is not interested or difficult? Try to interest him with the help of computer games, educational software and video. If your child has any difficulties, consult your teacher. The teacher will tell you how to help your child learn new words, do homework, etc. Because there are many small secrets of successful learning, which the child does not know yet!

Question: Like a child learning words?

Answer: Here are some tips that you can use:

-ask your child to teach the words of someone from family members;

-with your child create a Bank of words that put cards with words passed;

-hang the cards with words, pictures with captions on the walls in your child’s room;

ask your teacher or invent your own games with words.

You’ll see, sooner or later, even the most difficult words will be remembered!

Question:How to teach your child to pronounce words correctly?

Answer: many children in the early stages of learning English may have problems with pronunciation. Set the correct pronunciation is a long process requiring a large number of exercises to develop the child’s hearing, the ability to discriminate the sounds of their own and foreign languages, the ability to correctly these sounds to pronounce. Listening to the speech teacher and a cassette of dialogues, songs, rhymes, repeating them, the child gradually takes possession of correct English pronunciation. For additional training you can use the recordings of the other languages at home.

Finally, a few tips:

Very often from parents of students to hear the phrase: “I studied English and I can’t help your child!”

Let’s think, is it really so helpless parents? I would like to note that we are not talking about parents teaching their children all kinds of speech activity (listening and reading, speaking and writing, as well as their related three aspects of language – vocabulary, grammar and phonetics).

I would like to offer some recommendations.

Work with vocabulary.

As an English teacher I insist on the conduct of learners dictionaries. Have students record and learn new words in the process of learning each new topic. The dictionary has three columns: a foreign word, transcription, Russian translation. Students are encouraged to write dictations with learned words. Parents may wonder how is the dictionary; remember to ask a word in English, so the kid called them in English (the purpose of this exercise is not about mom or dad was checking the pronunciation of words, and that the child was coached your memory and memorize the vocabulary faster).

Work with grammar.

Now the guys are in the process of learning new grammatical phenomena, as well as systematization of information received. In the help for grammar lessons students are given material in the form of tables and rules, reminders, which we write in the workbook or find in the grammar guide in the textbook.

Learning to read

For teaching foreign language students possess different kinds of reading (analytical, research, screening, search, evaluation). For effective reading in English we aim to build the following skills:

-ignore unknown if it does not interfere with the performance of assigned


-to extract the semantic information;

-read keyword;

-work with the dictionary;

-to interpret and transform text.

At home the student should read the text at least four times (the first time – introductory reading; second time – “look-up” reading with selection and translation of unfamiliar words with a dictionary; third time – studying reading in which the learner understands the meaning and details of the text; the fourth and subsequent work on the technique of reading).

The computer: friend or foe?

A definite answer to this question hardly exists. However, we cannot deny the obvious benefits of combining the latest educational methodologies and technologies of computer training. Today there is a wide choice of various training programmes, interactive exercises that help you improve as a lexical and grammatical material. However nowadays there are lots of them that even the expert easy to get lost in this diversity.
